Original Blues’ Whitstable Guernsey was featured in The Independent on Sunday in 2000. Due to popular demand, we are delighted to have relaunched this iconic sweater, now available here.
The Whitstable Guernsey, from Original Blues, is a reproduction of the original Whitstable Guernsey, traditionally worn by the town’s fishermen, whilst bringing in their native bounty of oysters.
The charming seaside town of Whitstable in Kent has been associated with oysters for hundreds of years, indeed from as early as the 11th Century. The annual Whitstable Oyster Festival is a colourful celebration of this association, which includes an opening parade, a thanksgiving ceremony and a series of performances and activities, held over the weekend nearest to St James’ Day (25th July).
The Original Blues Whitstable Guernsey has the advantage of being knitted in soft and comfortable, yet durable cotton, whilst maintaining the authentic shape and stitch pattern of the original design. Featuring a traditional cable and knitted rib pattern on the yoke and rolled neck, and a split hem, the Whitstable Guernsey is beautifully finished with a garter stitch hem and matching cuffs, with the garter stitch gently edging the rolled neck.
Comfortable and easy to wear, our Whitstable Guernsey looks great paired with jeans, chinos and shorts of any colour. Perfect for seaside and resort wear, but equally at home in the city or countryside.
