VINTAGE FAIR ISLE

base in Donegal Yarn-100% wool
Inspired from an old photograph of a Fisherman wearing a Fair Isle sweater, exhibited in the Shetland Museum, our Michael Ross Vintage Fair Isle pattern was first developed in 1982.
This Vintage design displays a stunning array of colours and designs, reflective of the patterns used in the 1920s. Not knitted until the First World War, it was the Prince of Wales who thrust the Fair Isle into the limelight in 1922, when he sported his sweater while playing golf at St Andrews. At that time, more muted shades were preferred.
Since then, the Fair Isle has become a classic, with various permutations, and it continues to inspire and influence the fashion world. Indeed, American designer, Ralph Lauren included a Fair Isle in his first collection.
Available for men and women, our 100% Wool Vintage Fair Isle slip-over evokes images of the sea and the traditional fishing trade, conjuring suggestions of nets, ropes, and knots; key motifs include diamonds, crosses, arrows, and eight-pointed stars.
Knitted in horizontal bands, using traditional hand framed knitting machines, our Vintage Fair Isle slip-over is available in two versatile versions. Providing a stylish edge to your outfit, these slip-overs work especially well with jeans or cords and will complement or contrast with many other colours, ensuring your look is on point.
