About the Design
Art Deco is our new Fair Isle design, inspired by the Art Deco movement.
Also known as Modernism, Art Deco, short for ‘Arts Décoratifs’ was named after the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, held in Paris in 1925.
Our Art Deco Fair Isle reflects the style of this iconic design movement, with its purposeful geometric patterning, carefully chosen colour palettes and integration of each pattern repeat in relation to the whole, resulting in a feeling and mood reminiscent of the Art Deco era.
Like all Michael Ross pieces, Art Deco is expertly crafted on hand framed knitting machines in our own workshops in England using 100% Wool.
Art Deco is an international style of design, decorative art and architecture and came after Art Nouveau; developing into a major movement in Western Europe and the United States during the 1930s, its main difference is the influence of Cubism, resulting in a more geometric and fragmented design style.
Combining fine craftsmanship and expensive materials, the Art Deco style strived to be ‘modern’ and took inspiration from a wide range of influences such as the art of ancient Egypt, exotic design from China and Japan, Indian and Persian art, and Aztec and other ancient Central American art. Other key influences included the design of modern ships, trains, cars, and modern architecture. The Bauhaus school and Le Corbusier made a big impact.
This new Fair Isle style further demonstrates Michael Ross’s continuous commitment to original design and top quality materials and construction methods; made in Britain.
Designed in England and crafted today in 100% Wool by hand knitting machine in our own workshops in Thatcham, England, our Art Deco Fair Isle design demonstrates Michael Ross’s continuous commitment to original design and top quality materials and construction methods.
With Fair Isle enjoying a resurgence, you’ll be bang on trend, whichever colour way you choose. Art Deco - a true and enduring modern classic.
